How to Become a Member

To become a member you must:

  • Attend Open House
  • Complete a membership application Membership Application Link
  • Sign-up for general shop orientation through Eventbrite. Orientation Signup Link for Eventbright
  • Receive your welcome letter with your key fob in the mail OR pick one up from the shop ( must contact [email protected])
  • Complete new member orientation Orientation Signup Link for Eventbright
    • Complete Shop Safety Trainings this can be done either before or after you pay for membership
      • Wood shop Orientation
        • Drum sander (extra training required)
        • Lathe (extra training required through external Class)
  • Activate your Tcmaker account with the your account set up invitation How to login to Clubhouse
  • Log in and set up a membership subscription How to pay
  • volunteer as a community member you are the staff 10 hours of your time each year and helping out with one of our project days is what keeps the shop running and available for everyone Volunteering

You will receive a confirmation email when a volunteer assigns and mails the welcome letter and key fob to you within 72 hours, please be patient.

Replacing your Key Card/Fob

After the completion of general shop orientation you will be emailed an invitation and login credentials to join our member dashboard located at allowing you to start your membership, this is when you will setup your dues payment.

Additional training is required for specific areas the shop and the tools that require training.

It is strongly encouraged that you do this before starting your membership subscription so you can hit the ground running.

The Twin Cities Maker board reviews and formally approves memberships at each board meeting.

Membership System Walkthroughs

What comes with your membership

  • Normally you have 24 hour a day, 7 days a week access to the Hack Factory (possibly excluding some events, though this is rare)
  • Discounts on classes and events (where available)
  • Discounts at some local businesses
  • A vote in all elections, generally held at the Members' Annual Meeting, and Special Meetings

Membership rates

Standard membership

Our standard membership rate is $60 per month. When you first sign up, there is also a $20 new member fee for new member orientation, so that first month is $80.

Discounts for long-term purchases

We offer discounts for buying in bulk.

  • 6 month membership: $300 (one free month)
  • Yearly membership: $600 (two free months)

Community Sponsored Membership Scholarship Discounted Rate

We offer a Discounted Scholarship membership for $30 per month. Again, there is a $20 new member fee, so the first month's payment is $50.

We do not offer discounts based solely on student or senior status as those are not status indicators consistent with financial need.

We instead offer a Community Supported membership for anyone who needs the community’s financial support to enable your participation if you have need if it.

If you need the community support in order to enable your participation in the community we trust you to be excellent so you can self certify for the discounted membership rate.

If you need it please use it conversely if you can give more each month so that we can support others who need it please do so.

Membership +1 Policy

Members of Twin Cities Maker who are not being provided with a sponsored membership (link do sponsored membership definition), henceforth “Billing Contact”, are allowed to add one (1) additional person on to their account, henceforth “+1” A +1 is a full member of Twin Cities Maker in their own right with separate key(s), ID, account(s), and credentials; a +1 enjoys all the rights and privileges of all members Twin Cities Maker shall make no distinction between a Billing Contact and a +1 for any purposes other than Billing. +1s are not billed directly but instead has their account linked to a Billing Contact’s account for billing purposes +1s may not add a +1 to their account

A +1 can be any close relation to the Billing Contact whom is directly part of their life in a daily basis including but not strictly limited to

  • Spouse
  • Life partner
  • Significant other
  • Family member
  • Roomate

A very close friend whom they would consider family A +1’s membership expires and reactivates along with the linked Billing Contact’s account A +1 can be made the Billing Contact of the account they are associated with if the original Billing Contact wants to, needs to, or has to terminate their membership for any reason. Any time currently paid for on the membership is transferred to the new Billing Contact A +1 may decide to sever their tie with their linked Billing Contact at any time and become a Billing Contact theirselves A Billing Contact is allowed to change their linked +1 by giving notice and request to Twin Cities Maker. A Billing Contact may only change their +1 once a year at most. The removed +1’s membership would then become expired The volunteer handling this change shall notify the the removed +1 of the change Changes caused by +1’s requests to become a Billing Contact shall not count against change limits

Changing your membership type

Through the online membership system, you can change your membership type between standard, 6-month, and yearly at any time.

How to pay dues

You'll get an email two weeks before your membership expires, with a link to pay your dues online.

Payments made through the membership system get posted automatically to your membership. You can pay with Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex. The membership system never stores your credit card information on our systems is is handled solely by Stripe our payment proccessor.

Automatic monthly payments

Through the membership system, you can set up automatic monthly payments. You'll get an email a week before the payment is taken out, with a link to the membership system so you can change or cancel your payment.

Other methods of payment

  • You can place a check in an envelope, and drop it into the donation box in the lobby. Please let [mailto:[email protected] [email protected]] know if you do this, so that we can get your payment posted.
